EDGE*nyNOHO (65 Bleecker St. between Broadway and Lafayette St.) is a unique venture developed to promote design by fresh, cutting-edge talent. "What makes Edge special," explains jewelry designer DeDe Sullivan of DEDEMETAL, "is that the customers get to interact directly with the designers and purchase items that are truly unique." For spring, Sullivan sees a move away from glitzy, mass-produced jewelry toward simple, handcrafted, sculptural silhouettes. "I really think the bling thing is dying away and that people are looking for something more personal."
With this return to minimalism, texture and form take center stage. Along with her own unique creations, Sullivan recommends the graceful carved waxed designs of Judith Haas and the powerful, folkloric Reinerland Jewelry by Reiner Mengesdorf and Cristina Taranu.
"There's something almost spiritual about a piece of handmade jewelry," explains Sullivan. Hand-forged minimalist jewelry from EDGE*nyNOHO—it's simply divine
